Java/Firefox java plugin not working with HP Webjetadmin

ok, I am trying to access the webjetadmin site on my LAN with my Firefox browser on SuSe 10. Firefox prompted me to install the JRE manually. I downloaded jre-1_5_0_06-linux-i586-rpm file from SUN, installed it, ran the ln -s /usr/java/..blah blah/libjavaplugin_oji.so to /opt/MozillaFirefox/plugins/ dir. as directed by Sun, then restarted Firefox and attempted to hit the webjetadmin site. I still get prompted to install the java plugin. I have mozilla installed and configured as well, it does the same thing. Any thoughts?

does it list Java in "about:plugins"?

update

OK, I was running Firefox 1.0.7 that came with SuSe 10. I upgraded to 1.5.0.1. With this version, I unziped the tarball and added the symlink to the /$HOME/firefox/plugin directory and wallla! it works.
