Java Crashing

OK, I have Java 2 installed, everything seems fine until I load a webpage with an applet.

Konqueror does a Windows - style freezeup whenever a page with an applet is displayed.

How do I fix this?

It has been my experience that konqueror is still to unstable to be used as a web browser.

KDE: 3.2.3
Java: 1.4.2.06

In the year I've worked with Konqueror, this is the first time it's crashed. Even then it was because I buggered something up.

[edit]
I've been troubleshooting this problem, and have made a little headway.
Now applets work when I'm running as root, but not when running as user.

Oooookay....

I ended up reinstalling Knoppix (there were some other things I messed up...) and it turns out that cleanly installed, Konqueror crashes when running an applet as user.

*throws hands in the air*
Mozilla wins this time around.

Heh - actually (in this comparison, anyway) Mozilla always wins ...
