Japanese text input in Mandrake Linux 9.1

I am not at all skilled with Linux, please bare that in mind...
I am using Mandrake Linux 9.1 I would like to input Japanese using Roomaji characters like the Japanese Global IME in Windows. Is this availible in Mandrake Linux 9.1? I have KDE set up to be able to switch between the Japanese 106 key layout and the German 104 key layout that is my keyboard but I have had no luck with Japanese on either. I can't read or understand Japanese that well so I want to have all the interfaces and everything in German. Can someone help me? I don't know what I'm doing!!!
