japanese fonts in

i am trying to get japanese to show in i did a standard slackware 10.0 install, the included jis fonts are installed (i ran "xlsfonts | grep jis") and "xset q" shows that xorg.conf knows the of the directory they are in (/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc). any ideas?

Mozilla/firefox doesn't use them anymore. It wants TrueType versions of them. The same applies to GTK2 apps.

i got it to work with a font called msgothic.ttc. Firefox, open office, gaim, the whole lot.
