Jamin is slow -- any light alternatives?

Hey guys, I plan on using a p3 (800mhz) box to record some stuff using ardour. I like JACK and ardour, but I need something to master the audio before it enters ardour... natrualy I picked Jamin.

Jamin is a great program, but all I really need is basic leveling -- is there anything more lightweight? Jamin cranks this computer at 75% by just running. Thanks in advance for any ideas

Ah yes, audacity... but what I am looking for is a JACK pass-thru app. I ended up finding what I needed in jack-rack and a bunch of LADSPA plugin packs
