Jabber Server

I have downloaded a version of jabber server for my linux box an it has instructions on how to install, but after following them it has not worked.

I have a .jar file and in it are the directions and .bin file for the server.

What would be the best program to compile. In speaking with someone at meeting they said it autoinstalled after clicking, but this is for sure is not the case.
