j2re-1_4_1_01-linux-i586-rpm.bin


I want to install this Java Runtime Environment but I don't understand
the .bin

What do I do to install it. rpm -i ect. doesn't work.

You chmod it, then run it like this:
chmod a+x filename.bin

Then run it:
./j2re-1_4_1_01-linux-i586-rpm.bin

This should extract an rpm to install with:
rpm -ivh filename.rpm

You might prefer the jres and the jsdks available from blackdown.org, I've seen a lot better performance from those builds than the RPM ones. The binary add-on on the front is so that you can agree to the sun license agreement.
