iTunes on Linux through Codeweaver
The latest version of Codeweaver claimed that they can in fact run iTunes on Linux.
However, they point out:
"Soon they will also be able to plug their iPod into their Linux PC for music transfers and other jukebox-related tasks."
OK, so I guess; what's the use of running iTunes on Linux if you can't transfer data to the iPod itself. Am I missing something here?
Thanks for reading this post.

I had the same initial reaction myself, but you can purchase and play songs with iTunes also. Hopefully the "soon" will be sooner than later

Great News!!
What do mean by "can't transfer data to the iPod itself."???
AFAIK, You can't transfer [back-up] your songs from the Ipod onto any other medium. But according to a slashdot /. , there are already software's[hack's] available to backup your songs on the Ipod.

has anyone actually used it? is it worth it at this point?
i am thinking about it because i cannot get rhythmbox to play .m4a files, and i want some sort of library program.
you can always use GTKpod for the ipod, it works well enough.

i thought you could just copy songs straight from your ipod to the computer. Linux sees the ipod as "just another hard drive", right?

it does, however itunes/ipod uses a database to organize the files, it does not use a folder tree. the song info is stored in the tags and the filenames are not artist - song or anything like that. songs are spread across 19 or so folders on the ipod and are indistinguishable except by filesize.
so you need an app like gtkpod [linux] or pod util [win/mac] to read the database.
