iTunes on linux
 
now this may be a stuipd question but is mac OSx is based on FreeBSD (Darwin) why is it not possible to easily port itunes over to a *nix based OS?

Two problems:

1. It was written with the Apple proprietary graphics libs.
2. We don't have the source code for the program.

oh and 3) apple takes but doesn't give back. If they were truely in the spirit of alt-os they'd of made a version of Itunes for *nix!

You are so right about that Apple takes from the opensource communnity and doesn't give back! I like itues because while I browse for music I can listen to the streaming radio. This is why I would love to see someone get their hands on the source code and just let it out and give Steve Jobs a heart attack. Quicktime would also be cool too.

you call also call the rotted apple and ask them do make unix version for you, and maybe they will do it and if you insist maybe will have to pay only few dollars for it... :cool:

You know, on the other hand it could be worse. They could steal software and ideas from every other company on the market and then deny it in the end like some other companies we know. (you get three guesses to who and the first two don't count)
