Issues with GRUB in triple boot XP, Mint 8, and Ubuntu 9.10

I had recently Installed Linux Mint 8 on an external hard drive. My ubuntu 9.10 and Win XP system are on the internal HDD. Prior to the installation, I never had a grub loader (until I hit the option for ubuntu on the dual boot screen) It seems with Linux Mint the grub now loads up first and takes a very long time to do so. I would then have the option of booting Mint, or going to XP on my other HDD. From there I get the same dual boot loader as before.

My question is... Is there anyway that this new grub that came with the Mint iso be any faster or can this process be streamlined? Any help would be appreciated.

Don't post the same question multiple times, in different forums.
