issue with Windows Media Codecs on rhythmbox

sys spec: Fedora 11 Leonidas

http://fedorasolved.org/multimedia-s...s/win32-codecs

i've followed the above links instructions on installing win codecs... i've also created /usr/lib/win32 symbolic link (bottom part of above link instructions) but my rhythmbox wouldn't pickup on this...

do i need to manually add or link these codecs to rhythmbox? if so how?

cheers for any help

from the "how to" it looks wrong.
repeat it, BUT DO NOT use the /local folder
just copy EVERYTHING to the " /usr/lib/codecs " folder and to the " /usr/lib/win32 " folder

so are you saying there's no need to symlink the local/codec folder to the /usr/lib/codecs folder?

i don't really see the difference... codec folder is symlinked

all you need is the /usr/lib/codecs folder and ONLY need the /usr/lib/win32 for some very old programs

just open the archive and copy all the files to /usr/lib/codecs

you can link the win32 to it or just copy them to there

i tried running it from terminal... here's the output when i tried running a wma file
Code:
[manu@fedarylic ~]$ rhythmbox
Rhythmbox-Message: Missing plugin: gstreamer|0.10|rhythmbox-metadata|Windows Media Audio 8 decoder|decoder-audio/x-wma, wmaversion=(int)2, bitrate=(int)64024
** Message: PackageKit: xid = 65011745
** Message: PackageKit: Codec nice name: Windows Media Audio 8 decoder
** Message: PackageKit: structure: gstreamer0.10(decoder-audio/x-wma)(wmaversion=2)
** Message: PackageKit: Did not install codec: failed to find: gstreamer0.10(decoder-audio/x-wma)(wmaversion=2)
Rhythmbox-Message: No installation candidate for missing plugins found.
anyways gstreamer is installed already... i don't know why rhythmbox is saying it can't find decoder...

thanks mate... doesn't seem to work aye (give up)... i'm installing amarok

i don't know why it's not playing win file format

update: nope Amarok wouldn't play my wma files either - man this sucks

back to rhythmbox... i realise the two players can play some wma files but not others... i don't know why...

but i remember in Windows (winamp) these files always gets a prompt for license download - that is on first time i played them (or after moving the files location

could this be a reason for some of the files not playing?

no that is only with "totem " to keep the law at bay , and there ARE "free ( sort-of)" codecs for that to

for Rhythmbox did you also install the gstreammer files and plugins

yes gstreamer is installed...

i think the files that rhythmbox can't play are windows media audio 8 and 9

i can play some wma files... rhythmbox has 450 wma files it can't play out of my list of 10

i will look into the links above and see if it will help...

I am getting exactly the same problem with my F11 installation.

Worse part is that in my case, the wma files are located inside my music library, so Rhythmbox keeps popping up the same window asking for the Windows media codec all the time.

If there is no way to install the missing codecs, does anybody know if it would be possible to tell Rythmbox to just ignore WMA files ?

Same thing here.

Good news is that Rythmbox has an option of disabling notifications. Just click on the Rythmbox icon on the top GNOME bar, chose the corresponding menu entry and everything works fine.
