Issue with GRUB

I am attempting to dual boot JAMD and Slack9.1 using grub.

My first partition is my swap and is flagged to boot.

I had Slack in my hda2 and LILO was booting, then I installed JAMD. It prompted me to use GRUB for booting. I figured what the heck and agreed which in turn rewrote the existing booter in the MBR.

I specified the other OS (slack) and its corresponding partition, but when I go to boot the slack partition it doesn't work. It is giving me something like: Error 13 format not executable.

I have fooled a round with the editing and command line in GRUB, but haven't made much progress. I can boot JAMD all day long, but the slack is dealing me fits. I am continuing to research the problem. Any suggestions would be helpful. THANKS.

Edit: My filesystem on slack is reiserfs...does that affect anything?

do you have GRUB installed on slack?
i think you'll need it, GRUB is looking for the stage2 in /boot/grub.

No I guess I don't

I'm pretty sure I don't have Grub on slack. I'll have to check and see if it comes as a package. I haven't added anything to slack yet.

Do I need to install a certain part of Grub into slack?

just install it all, but don't overwrite the MBR.
you need the stage2 image, but it'll come installed with GRUB anyway

stage1=first 512 bytes of GRUB that goes in the MBR
stage2=the rest of GRUB that goes in /boot
