ISPConfig install log errors?

i followed the ispconfig.org (for ISPConfig 2) install guide here:

i reinstalled this morning and saw the same couple lines in my install log, but i cant figure out if they mean the install was unsuccessful or not. i have another post up regarding opening up port 81 on my iptables firewall, that is yet unanswered.

questionable lines:
Thu Nov 5 08:25:34 EST 2009 - [ISPConfig] - WARNING: could not unpack ISPConfig system
Thu Nov 5 08:25:34 EST 2009 - [ISPConfig] - WARNING: could not move directory ispconfig_tmp to /root/ispconfig

there are 2 installs in this log--check Nov 4 22:01:57 for the same errors yesterday when i tried to install.

do these mean the install somehow failed?

In particular reason you are installing a package which REQUIRES a fresh install on a system that is beyond EOL(End OF Life) by nearly two years? There have been no updates of any kind since that time. If you do not like upgrading your system every year switch to a distro that offers long term support. Centos is RHEL with the logs removed. It is free to download/update(unlike RHEL) and was based on FC6. It will have support available until 2014. The package you are attempting to install specifically lists Centos5 as being supported.

there seems to be more documentation for version 2. i couldn't care less which version--i only need it for managing a handful of sites/ftp's and it looked like a package that would do it.

i installed this flawlessly on a virtual box FC8 just a couple days ago--so of course im curious after following the same documentation.

ill try FC10 with version 3. hooray more wiping

Be aware that F10 will hit EOL very soon. One month after F12 is released.

whats involved in the upgrade process from one version to the latest? this server is just going to be running ISPConfig, webmin and subversion.

The official advice is to do a clean install whenever versions are upgraded (Fedora/RHEL/Centos). This is why so many of us switched to Centos when Fedora dropped long term support. If you are going to reinstall, use this system long term, and wish to stay RH based, I would strongly urge you to look at Centos.

which howtoforge.com tutorial should i follow if ill be installing i386 Centos? they dont seem to have a centos 5.3 ispconfig 3 for 32-bit. should i go with 5.2 and version 3?

For this type of thing the differences between installing a 32bit or a 64bit should be minimal. Keep in mind that Centos 5.4 is current. Again installing on any of the 5.X series should be virtually identical. If your hardware will take it (most made in the last 3 years will) you cold also just go 64bit.
