"isolinux.bin is missing or corrupt" on boot
 

I'm banging my head against the wall trying to solve this problem. Googling has not been any help.

I'm trying to install xubuntu 16.04 LTS. I have downloaded a fresh ISO. MD5 checksum verifies disk image is good. I burned the image to a dvd with rufus on a windows 7 machine and everything checks out ok.

When I attempt to boot, I keep getting the same "isolinux.bin is missing or corrupt" error message. I thought it could be a bad burn, so I tried another disk. Same issue. I thought it could be the image itself (even though MD5 checks out) so I tried downloading the minimal cd image and burned it to a cd. Same error message.

I'm unable to get the machine to boot from USB so that isn't an option (zotac zbox).

Any ideas? I have never run into this issue.

Windows 7 can natively burn an ISO to CD/DVD.

Yes, there are lots of ways to burn ISO files to disk. This doesn't address the problem at all however.

To follow up, I was able to finally get the machine to boot from the minimal cd by forcing "CD ROM" emulation in the bios. For whatever reason, neither "AUTO" nor "HARD DISK" would allow it to boot.

Sounds like your problem was just the boot order in your BIOS.

For reference, it is usual to allow external media to boot before internal media, in the bios, this allows for recovering your internal disk if it should have a problem. :)
