ISO Versions---> i386, i486, i586 Which one is for me

I am currently running Red Hat 9 and I am considering going to Mandrake 9.1. My problem is that i am not sure which iso to download... I am getting the isos from Linuxiso.org and under the mandrake version there is i586 isos and PPC isos, which do i choose. My current system is an AMD 1700, 256 MB DDR RAM, Windows XP on one side and RH9 on the other. Also 2 69GB HDD, thanks in advance for yalls help.

please don't take this as an insult or anything... but have you really never heard of a 386 or a 486 processor? I find it so strange when people ask this question.....

well truthfully the only thing that i have heard of with ix86 is the "i386" folder on the windows install cds. i am quite the noob here so it is all looking like chinnese to me :)

i586 and PPC ISOs are just versions of Mandrake built specifically for a certain type of processor architecture. PPC (PowerPC) is the Mac architecture and 586 is Pentium class ( if we use Intel as an example). This is suitable for Pentiums I through IV and Celerons as well as all AMD Athlons and Durons and several others.

Does mandrake use "RPMs" like RH9 or is there something else i should look for when trying to install programs?

Seek and ye shall find... i am looking at the "Rute Users Guide" this i clicked on under acid_kewpie's signature and just answered my own question
