ISCSI initiator problems w/openfiler - no devices

I'm new to ISCSI. I'm attempting to set up an inexpensive Oracle RAC cluster using the install instructions from Jeffrey Hunter's article:

http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub...gr2_iscsi.html

I've got the openfiler up and running and I'm able to connect to the volumes, but no disks are attached, no virtual devices are generated on the client.

I'm using different versions than he does in his article. I've installed el5 on the nodes (unlike his article which uses rhel4.) There appears to be a significant version difference in the utils (iscsi-initiator-utils-6.2.0.742-0.5.el5 vs iscsi-initiator-utils-4.0.3.0-5). For example, I don't have iscsi-ls available.

I'm using openfiler 2.2.

Is there a different workflow for this version?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

I have the same issue but I am using el4 and I followed the same article. But it looks like iscsi initiator is not running in the openfiler pc and i found no mention of that is the article at all.

Anyway if anyone has answer!

FFI: Failure to Follow Instruction

I reviewed the log files on the openfiler system and discovered that the base partition for the volume group was unacceptable. I removed everything and started over from scratch, this time carefully adhering to jeffrey's directions and successfully mounting the devices.

guch - On the openfiler, I think the iscsi-target service should be running (not iscsi).

Yes you are correct. Everything was correct in the document. But what worked is that when I was putting the server access in openfiler administration page, I was putting network mask as per document "255.255.255.0".

But I tried putting "255.255.255.255" and that made the magic. Anyway I got that info about you must put "255.255.255.255" from other linux iscsi source.

Based on that i do not know if the "Jeff Hunter" was wrong on specifying "255.255.255.0" or it was just me special case (I had to put 255.255.255.255".

It worked and I was able to see from both nodes.
