I'm curious how i can get windows media audio/video to play in xine?
please do not hack me because I mentioned windows.

xine is plugin based, so you just need the right plugin for those files.
I don't know if the ones you want come default or if you'll have to do some hunting, but just remember that google is your friend

The MPlayer pages have a number of plugins available - a number of which are for Windows codecs.

I was hoping to consolidate everything in one player (xine), instead of two.
every search I have made sends me to the windows media site, which is not relevent.
do you have any ideas of key words to be searching for?

Well, the codecs aren't afaik mplayer specific - once installed, you should be able to point Xine at them and use them.

How do you do this?

Get the win32, qt6, qtextras, and rp9 codecs from the Mplayer
website.

Create the directory:

/usr/lib/win32

Extract the win32 codecs to a temporary directory. (/home/yourhome is fine)
Enter the newly untarred directory and copy all the files (.dll, .acm, etc...) to
/usr/lib/win32.
Do the same with qt6 and qtextras.

You can extract the rp9 codec directory anywhere you want. (leave those files be)

In the Xine configuration, you can enter the path to the rp9 codecs.

Xine is set by default to look for the other codecs in /usr/lib/win32.
