Is this a WINE error??

After starting a tax program (which requires wine) for the first time I get a console window with:

Building font metrics. This may take some time...

Font metrics: 0.4% done
Font metrics: 0.7% done
Font metrics: 1.1% done

X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

Then I have to log in again, since the Xserver is down. Anybody knows what is causing it?? I installed all fonts which come with SuSE 8.1. What is XFONT_BuildMetrics? Can I disable that?

The Font metrics :xx% done thing is normal, but i've never encountered the error you're seeing.
Have you tried reinstalling the XFree86 font RPMs?

Okay, but is it Wine, doing that? Is it calling scripts? Can I suppress that call? If so, do you know the name of the file responsible?

Not yet, will do this evening. Again, for what name should I look?

Thanks. :)

Yes, Wine is doing the font metrics thing, but i'm not sure if it's wine or XFree86 that's giving you the error.

They would be RPMs named something with XFree86 and font in the name, I can't remember their exact name.
If you don't have them you might want to upgrade to the latest version of X (if you don' t have it already).

Thanks pilot1, you did it (after ten days of experiments on my part...)! I reinstalled the fonts as you suggested (with yast2, didn't find them explicitly with rpm -qa | grep font ?!?) and everything is bingo.

I just wonder, what caused the fonts to corrupt in the first place? But whatever, you had the idea which carried the day. Great, thanks again.
