You'll be banging your head against the wall trying to sync android contacts/calendar via cable.
Google would much rather have you send them all your data, so that is where their development goes.
Samsung Keyes(sic?) I think will do it via their own additions to their phones, but only on windows with outlook.
Stock android needs to do it via web.
Maybe some other apps do "syncing" too,(airdroid?) but again, invariably via "someone else's server".
If you want to keep your data to yourself (good plan) you'll need to run your own server.
It's really not that hard but you will need a little learning.

The site gives me a "Potential Security Risk" warning.

dt.iki.fi uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because it was signed using a signature algorithm that was disabled because that algorithm is not secure. Error code: SEC_ERROR_CERT_SIGNATURE_ALGORITHM_DISABLED
Should I be concerned about that?

I looked at the site, but it requires me to have "a server up & running". I don't think using "localhost" would do the trick. I'm guessing I'd have to purchase a domain name and use that, which at this point I don't feel like doing.
