is there anything liked rhythmbox?
Hi guys,
I used to use rhythmbox on fedora since it manages all my music as a database so i can search for any songs i want. However, now i use centOS, RH Enterprise clone, rythmbox is not available on this distribution. Any efford using rythmbox even compiling from source is fail. I wonder if there is anything like rythmbox (music manager) that i should try? I am using xmms now but it does not provide searching for song title and other search criteria, i have a hard time finding my song by nautilus before playing it. Hope anyone have a suggestion.
Thanks in advance
THai

Amarok also has the songs in a database that you can search. But if you give more specifics about why rhythmbox isn't working you might get some help on getting it to work.

Sorry, i made a mistake, rhythmbox is available on centos, but mp3 support (gstreamer-plugins-extra-audio) for rhythmbox is not available on any repository for RH EL. Using rhythmbox and gstreamer-plugins-extra-audio rpm from fedora repository make it crash whenever it plays any song(mp3). Compile from source requires some packages that are newer than the most recent version that has been certified and available for RH EL. amarok is not available for RH EL. jamboree is available but it does not import or play music when i add music folder to it. I guess it has the same problem as rhythmbox does. Any other suggestion?

If the problem is with the audio plugins then that's the issue that needs solving, cause it will be the same no matter what player you use. I'd guess that gstreamer-plugins-extra-audio is a meta-package that just has as it's dependencies all the plugins that you're likely to need. It might be worth checking if there's a package called something like gstreamer-lame. This would just give you the plugin to play mp3 files. You'll probably want some other ones as well, but this might tell us if the problem is with a particular plugin or with the whole gstreamer.

Just compile LAME from source.
