I am using IE6 as a frontend for my oracle CRM application. However i wanted to try mozilla in linux for the same. I installed linux (Mandrake 9.0) and mozilla 1.6. I modified the host file entry n typed the url in mozilla browser. after that it showed me the login page n after that a selection window. but wen i clik on any of the link in this window it gives me an error that "jdk 1.4.1 plugin needs to be installed from javasoft.com". wen i pointed my browser to this page it went to java.sun.com
from this site i downloaded j2se 1.4.2 n jre plug-in. i installed it as per the instructions given i.e., created a symbolic link in the mozilla plugin directory and enabled java from edit>preferences>advanced.
but still it is givin me the same error.
can a soul show me the guiding light on this matter?
Yes, java is listed in about > plugins. there are around 10-15 types in tabular form n yes is written in the end.
I wil giv u th details of error i get.
"please make sure that jdk 1.4.1 is installed on ur client & npx_plugin_path environment variable is set before starting netscape."
i hav made the symbolink link as specified in the page.
wat is this npx_plugin_path? n how 2 set it in environment variables?
1. i installed j2re1.4.2_04 and j2sdk1.4.2_04 in /usr/java.
2. the error msg on my previous post came from oracle while loading java applet. at the same time i get error msg. frm mozilla, which is 'this page contains information of type (application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.4.1) that can only be viewed with appropriate plugin.'
but wen i c 'about plugins' in mozilla i see
MIME type - application/x-java-applet;jpi-version=1.4.2_04
description - Java,
suffixes column is blank,
Enabled - yes.
3. if i hav installed 1.4.2 then why it asks for a version previous to this?
4. from where do i get JDK?
5. from some documentation i found this page.
file:///usr/java/j2sdk1.4.2_04/demo/plugin/applets/Animator/example1.html
there it was written that if this page gives proper output then that plugin should work. this animation works well with the browser with some sound.

You get JDK from Sun (it's called j2sdk). Somewhere in the download area you can choose whether to download the SDK or the Runtime.
But it seems your problem is at least partially on the Oracle side.
For whatever reason it seems to require the exact version 1.4.1, while Mozilla (according to official documentation) requires at least 1.4.2 ...
Maybe take a look at the Oracle documentation how to make the Oracle applet work with higher Java versions or, maybe even better, look if they have an updated client applet that works with 1.4.2 available for download.
i hav instaled both j2re n j2sdk.
i came across this site
here it's written mozilla requires JRE 1.4.2
and i searched like hell on oracle site for this but i didn't find anything related to this topic.
