is there anything comepletely automatic to mount the devices

is there anything comepletely automatic to mount & unmount the devices .life is so cool with windows just insert the cd and browse it ,just plug in your pen drive and windows says anew hard ware detected and and adds it to your "my computer" .windows has exellent support for plug and play.i expect the same from my linux envoirment .i am fed up of using mount utility and configuring linux.

Most newish distros like Fedora and Mandrake have features that allow auto mounting of certain devices.
