Is there any way to make AIM work?

I don't like GAIM, direct connecting is horrible and file sending is worse.

I tried running the one on my windows drive with wine but it doesnt work.

The AIM client for Linux sucks donkey butt. You might try out Kopete, if you're dissatisifed with Gaim. I've had some problems with it (doesn't seem as stable as Gaim), but it's KDE based, so that's a plus (if you're like me and like KDE). If you get the latest version of either Gaim or Kopete, file sending through Oscar should be completely possible, but personally I prefer sending/receiving files via DCC through IRC on something like XChat.
