Is there an Open Source app to index backup media

Hi guys, just had a bit of a google, but I need an Open Source solution for a client of mine who has hundreds of backup CDs in mac and PC format going back ten years and wants to be able to index them so that they can be stored in some kind of indexed way and retrieve a particular CD by number after searching a database that has the contents of each CD associated with the index number...

I am advocating going back over all the cds and reburning them onto DVD in case media is failing - or looking at other mass storage for backup but they will still need a searchable index system...

Any ideas appreciated!

There are many. Rather than checking Google, check Sourceforge.net. For example, a simple indexer that looks in archive files can be found here. You can also use popular indexers like Beagle and Tracker.
