is there a way to view images without X?
 
i dont have X so do i must have X11 to view images or can i somehow view it under bash without X?]

I don't expect it is quite what you have in mind, but you could use asciiart.

Look into svgalib and zgv. And if you get it compiled with gcc 3.4.3, lemme know how. :( Anyway, nope, no X required.
