Is there something wrong with the init program you have ?

hda7 06-30-2010 09:28 AM

Well, I am creating my own distro, and I would like to use something other than busybox init (which is in my current distro).

kbp 06-30-2010 09:40 PM

Have you looked at upstart ?

Elv13 06-30-2010 10:25 PM

I like OpenRC, but upstart is good too. Both with some work can boot in less than 10 second. Some Gentoo users (where init replacement is easier than other distributions) also praise einit.

Thanks all. I have now found several init replacements. What is your opinion of these:

* OpenRC
* Upstart
* eINIT
* runit
* InitNG

Thanks again.

What's the best init replacement?

In your opinion, what is the best init replacement?

I think this would depend on what problem you are trying to solve........i.e.: Why would anyone need to replace init?

Maybe I didn't word that quite right. I'm trying to roll my own distro, and this is to help me pick an init program. I meant replacement as in instead of the traditional SysV init.

Since the two threads you started are, essentially, the same question, I have merged them into one so that other participants may see the whole discussion.
