Depends on what you want to do and what you already
have installed. If you already have linux installed you
can use 'parted'.

to rid us of windows for ever

my girlfriend has a new gateway laptop computer with the unthinkable windows xp home. I want to convince her to use mandrake. so i have to make room on the hard drive for the mandrake.

it is a athalon 64 3200
it has 200 gig and windows xp home

and by the way, it took two hours just to install antivirus software and I had to reboot half a dozen times

go linux

Mandrake will do that for you during the install, using diskdrake like mugstar pointed out.

There is a free partition manager called Ranish Partition Manager. You can download it at http://www.snapfiles.com/get/ranish.html. It uses text mode and works with DOS but it's very good and easy to use.
