Is there a dual boot guide or sticky?

Good day, is there a guide here or on youtube to dual boot Windows 7 or 8 with such as Ubuntu or Fedora?

I have previously had this going, at start up options as to which system I would boot into. But now things have changed in Linux and the method must be different, I have not seen a tutorial on this for a year or two.

Assuming I get a PC running Windows 7 or 8 and I want to give a distro of Ubuntu half the 500 GB HDD. How is it done?

You need to first create space on the drive on which to install Ubuntu/Fedora by shrinking the windows partition. You then create a partition or partitions in the unallocated space which you can do during the install of either Ubuntu/Fedora. Verify the partitions on which you have windows before beginning the actual install so you don't overwrite windows. Both Ubuntu/Fedora use the Grub2 bootloader so you might want to read a little about Grub2 if you are not familiar with it.

If it is windows 8, you have the additional factor of Secure Boot in the BIOS to deal with.
