is there a cli pop client that counts as a secure app for gmail?

I receive most mail at a gmail account. I fetch it with fetchmail. Looking around my gmail configuration for something else I found the switch to turn off access by 'less secure apps'. This kept fetchmail out. Have I an alternative?

I've used my gmail account successfully with alpine.

Have you turned off access to 'less secure apps'? 'On' is the default.

I don't remember, I don't use alpine any longer, but I recall finding a gmail howto page for alpine from some university website, and that worked.

I probably do have the "less secure apps" set to allow in my google account, I had to change this setting for my desktop thunderbird on Windows 7 to connect to gmail imap.
