Is there a best AUDIO app with client-server configuration

Guys,

Eventually I'll build or buy a new super-desktop with at least 3TB of space. Until then, I would like to stream mp3's and ogg's and flac's and other audio from my elsewhere on my LAN into my main computer that has the best speakers.

Two of my desktop run Ubuntu, my one server runs FreeBSD. And until I can upgrade to Ubuntu, my main desktop runs KDE on FreeBSD 7.1. I am admittedly new to using computers for anything other that number crunching. I've used X remote for years, but never audio remote. What I cannot figure out how to do is use one remote computer to store all my audio and play it in my office.

One suggestion was to use xmms2 because it uses the client-server model. I can ssh to my remote desktop and, using xmms2 play on the remote computer. That isn't what I want. I don't know enough about the latest audio client-server programs to accomplish what I would like to do.

Can anybody clue me in?

thanks in advance! ---FWIW, my favorite app is amaroK, :-)

You lost me. amarok is a KDE application for playing audio on a local host.
