is something wrong with UBUNTU14.04?

I have downloaded all 1TB of Ubuntu14.04 and burned the ISO the a DVD using Mint 17.3 k (I think).
Both copies have the same glitch, bug, virus in them.
Instead of saying something like download, it will say wnl ad or something like that.
This seems to be in labels and instructions. It is on the DVD and was on the one I threw away.
Is this a problem with 14.04 now?
I have been trying to change over for a week now and I am getting worn out as I do it from morning to late night.
Thanks for your help.

Ubuntu ISO size is no 1TB, where did you get it? You can try download it from here. Before burning checksum your downloaded ISO first compare with what is published with the source.

Hope that helps.

@Raybrite m.m. gave you good advice and I would add that 16.04 LTS stable should be out in about a month should you care to wait.

That is the site I downloaded it from.
I should have said 1GB. NOT 1TB.
I am getting worn out after doing this for a week.
I need to do my taxes yet so I need my printer. I am in the Philippines so I can't go to the post office to get forms.
I downloaded Mint last week with no problem but that install wiped out Windows.

+1

So you're seeing the same glitch on the website and the DVD? If so, I'm not sure why that would be happening unless there is an issue with Mint somewhere. If not, you can see if you can duplicate this with another burner, if you have an extra one handy, even an external burner. Or see if someone can burn a DVD of Ubuntu on their system for you. :)

Maybe the problem is in the burner. I will uninstall the burner and then install it again and see if that still happens.
I also could download Ubuntu 15.15 and see if it is there but that will take several hours.
Thanks
Ken

There is no 15.15, but there is a 15.10.

Thanks. I knmew it was 15.something. i was on my tablet then.
Now I have taken Brasero off of Mint and reinstalled it. I made another DVD and it does the same thing. I have not tried burning anythin else with it.
If I download the other version of Ubuntu or some other Linux program, I will know if it is in Ubuntu or somewhere else.
Thanks for bearing with me. I need to go to breakfast now. I am in the Philippines and it is morning here.

Use k3b to burn the image and check the VERIFY box. Or after you burn it use dd to get an image of what you burned and cmp it to the original iso. And of course verify that what you downloaded matches the source that you got it from. Optical media is cheap but it has it's quirks.

Went to my son's 6th grade Commencement this evening.
I will be sure to check this tomorrow.

These are just some.
Firefox works and the program runs okay. Just those missing letters.

Seems like you're missing fonts or the color scheme is such that foreground and background color match. If you're not running it on bare metal perhaps the virtualization is lacking some $PATH type stuff. If it's older hardware perhaps ubuntu is compiled with instruction sets lacking from your older processor (try the 32 bit version). I have to run 14.04 with a debian kernel as what I've tried of ubuntu's kernels have utterly failed on my atom chipset laptop (hp stream 11). But with a debian kernel on an ubuntu install it's almost nice. At least for the recent debootstrap install of ubuntu that I did. Side note: "apt-get install unity" == fail ... "apt-get install ubuntu-desktop" == victory. Plus other quirks like universe instead of main contrib non-free in the apt sources.
