Obviously it is, and it is also my recommendation. However, that doesn't mean you have to take it. Go ahead and use Tor, but at least understand what it is, what it does and does not do, and the risks involved.

private browsing's best application would be for using public pc's (such as libraries/university computer lab) and checking your email/bank account/social network/amazon/...

some browsers have a habit of storing your username (and sometimes password) for sites that contain post form data (for things like shipping address).

if i am at the same coffee shop than you i can still use something like ethereal/wireshark to read packets that you send to various websites (regardless of private browsing).
