Is it possible to update kmail?

I am running SuSE 7.3 and attempting to use kmail. Unfortunately the version of kmail I have will not send messages because my ISP needs to verify my identity with every send. My version of kmail will not do this. Something about smpt protocols and such.

Is it possible to update kmail? Can I just update kmail by itself without updating other things like the kde desktop or my system? I have tried SuSE 8.1 but haven't had any luck installing it on my thinkpad.

-a newbie willing to try stuff out.

Which version is your KMail?

I've been using it for about 2
years, and it always had SMTP/POP3
support ...

As for the update: I don't think you
can update kmail by itself, the more
recent versions heavily depend on
the newer versions of the kde-libs.
That said, you might want to upgrade
your KDE environment.

What Thinkpad model are you using,
btw? :) I've got a R32 here...

Cheers,
Tink

Thanks tink,

kmail version 2.2.1
thinkpad 600

I looked for smtp/pop3 support in the setup and could not find it.

Is there an easy way to update the kde environment? I have played around a little with stuff but have had no success so far. (I am having a hard time installing anything. definitely a newbie among newbies.)

Wow ... and I thought my 1.5.2 was
recent ;)

K, sorry, that was rude... I assume that's
your KDE Version?

It's been a while since I was there... I hope
that this file didn't change too much over
time.

Look at
~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc

Find a section
[Transport ...

What info have you got in there?

Cheers,
Tink

P.S.: Don't post a password & userid if
you find them :)

"Look at
~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc"

couldn't find kmailrc (tried "locate kmailrc")

I think updating kde is called for. Any suggestions?

I've just searched the SuSE mailing list
archives and found that people definitely
used KMail 1.3.1 with SMTP ...
I suggest you look at the configuration
again :) ... network,sending ...
