Linux on a Slave drive.
This isn't just possible, it's probably the most hastle free way to dual boot. Just make sure the bios sees your slave drive, and pretty much any distro will allow you to install to a slave and leave the master alone. Just make sure when your installing, fdisk, format and all, that you have the right drive. If your HDs are ide, this is how the devices will go:
Primary Master: /dev/hda
Primary Slave: /dev/hdb
Secondary Master: /dev/hdc
Secondary Slave: /dev/hdd
I don't remember dell being that weenie on their warranty requirements, but you have to remember that if you install LILO its going to live on the MBR of the Primary Master, so if you want everything above board, you might have to use a boot disk.
Luck,
Christian
