Is it possible to install Abiword on Centos 7?

It's a real pain to find this simple program for Centos 7.

I was hoping for something lighter weight than Libre Office.

Thanks!

Hi, this process is a bit more difficult than I thought. I have abiword on my C6 install
Quote:
[tim@Homebase ~]$ yum list | grep -i abiword
abiword.i686 1:2.8.6-1.el6.rf rpmforge
libabiword.i686 1:2.8.6-1.el6.rf rpmforge
libabiword-devel.i686 1:2.8.6-1.el6.rf rpmforge
[tim@Homebase ~]$
I only have the base install on C7 and I don't see this product on C7.

I don't actually use abiword but I think you need to use the rpmforge repository.

Sometimes you can add in the desktop repos or even maybe fedora and install it that way.

I've found that if it's not Centos 7, it always fails due to dependency hell. It has so far proven true in the case of Abiword, too.

Yeah, Repoforge doesn't have it.

I've checked at pkgs.org and they only list it for CentOS 6: there it's only available from Repoforge, Springdale, and Nux. I suggest you compile your own: I don't think there are any dependencies other than GTK2.

Awesome! It seems to open and run just fine. If it doesn't work in the long term then oh well, wasn't meant to be. But thanks a million for your help!

Just in case you need anything else, it's always worth checking at http://pkgs.org/
For Abiword suitable for CentOS 7, they came up with a package of version 3.0 from lux, whoever they are.

Hi there,
Thank you. It had not occurred to me to do that.
[...and furthermore, as a paranoid Centos user, I try to abide by this principle of not adding additional repos if I could help it.]
thanks again.
