is it ok to 'rpm -e kernel --nodeps' ???

Hey boys and girls.

i installed Fedora core 2.
the kernel was not compatable with the current nvidia graphics card driver,
so i compiled a new 2.6.6

is it now safe to remove the old kernel.

rpm reports that things like iptables depend on the kernel rpm.

are these dependency's real ? can i force the un0install of the old kernel ?
or will doing this break my system ?

im sure it wont, but i thought i should get a second opinion.
anyone ?
