is it a space problem?

My jurassic HD is only 4 GB. Windows currently occupies 3,2 GB of it. In the process of Mandrake installation, Ive made a Linux partition with 800 MB using Diskdrake. The whole process failed when I was installing the selected packages. I dont know why, but I presume one posible reason is lack of disk space. Am I in the right direction or completely lost? If I erase some Windows programs, can I increase the size of the Linux partition without compromise Windows? (I want to erase it completely, but not yet...)

Important: As you can see (or read), I'm so familiar with Linux as I am with English...
Greetings from Brasil, tks for your time

a mandrake standard install will need more than just 800 megs of space.. i think the whole install could take up 2 gigs worth.. either do a custom install and select the packages you might need or check into a smaller distro to use.. like peanut linux.. which is like a total of 155 megs..
