Is GFS right for me?

I have a 15TB array of disks that I want to share via a fiber switch to more then one server at a time. Is this something that RHEL with GFS will do for me? I've read that it has distributed lock manager and I'm assuming that it's to allow same time file usage. Is there a better software recommendation to use?

I'm kind of at the beginning of my search and this site always gives ideas. Thanks for the help!

Hi,

Yes, GFS would meet your requirement quite well. GFS can support max to 16TB while Redhat wrote in their website that only 8T had been validated. I get this information from RHEL4.5 GFS manual. Perhaps you'd better have a look at RHEL5.0, it would be updated.

Hope this helpful.

Regards,
Phillip

Hey thanks for the reply PhillipHuang! I've been reading more into it and it looks like the way I'm going to go. You say that I should look at RHEL5...is that because it does support true 16 TB partitions? Thanks again!

Why I told you to have a look at CentOS5.0 documents is that the lastest GFS manual listed in RedHat website says they only validate 8TB. It sounds that you will on your risk when overhead 8TB. However, in my test, RHEL4.5 can support 16TB well.

Thanks PhillipHuang! Sorry for the late response...I was out of town. I'm looking for the GFS manual, but I can't find it. Would you mind telling me what you're looking at or a place that gives examples for configuring several systems with GFS? Thanks again!
