Is .acc the same as .mp3? kStreamRipper

I ripped some streams with kStreamRipper and they all had .acc extensions. I changed the extension to .mp3 and amarocK happily plays them. It happily plays the .acc too. If I just change the extension are they actually MP3s? If not, how do I configure kStreamRipper to just save them as .mp3? There doesn't saeem to be such a feature. Now that I think of it I'd like to learn how to just save them as .mp3 so I don't have to batch change the extensions even if this works.

AAC and MP3 are not the same. AAC is a newer, better codec than MP3. AmaroK plays them both and autodetects the media type so changing the file extension doesn't make any difference.
I don't know what options kStreamRipper has. Perhaps though if the streams are in AAC, kStreamRipper will only record them as AAC, rather than crosscoding them in real time to MP3 (and thereby losing audio quality).
