iptables is controlled by rule sets that can be loaded in from a file or entered manually, that tell iptables what to do with packets in all sorts of states
Code:
man iptables
but i would suggest an online guide would serve you better.

iptables -L is a good way to list default rules

Hi
i used guarddog to configure iptables since Im not not so good at shell things.
Guarddog is a GUI which offrs several predefined rules for apps.
You can find it in teh universe repository.
