iPod shows wrong disk space

When I mount my iPod under linux df shows that the disk is 95% used, when in fact it is 50% used. I tried coping files to it and the drive shows as full. I tried this on two different Fedora systems. I mounted the drive under Windows and it shows the correct free space about 50% free. If I do du -sh at the root of the drive I see that the drive is only 50% used.
