I have been trying to compile the new version of MPlayer and the compile halts telling me this.

Checking for bitypes.h (inttypes.h predecessor) ...
Error: Cannot find header either inttypes.h or bitypes.h (see DOCS/HTML/en/faq.html).

I went and read the faq and followed those instructions. The location given does not contain that file. There is a file named types.h that I put in the correct location the results were the same. I tried to rename types.h to inttypes.h, but had exactly the same results.

Any ideas.

I am really just guessing here(disclaimer). those header files may be part of your developmental packages that can be installed during the original installation of your system. If you have not installed all of your developmental packages, do so now from your disk.
