Hello.
I am running Slackware 12 on my computer.
For some reason, I cant install internet explorer 7.
When I click on the exe, it comes up with a menu of programs and says "How would you like to open this 'Windows Executable File'". I am not sure how to handle this problem.
I think it began when I installed battletoads on my computer a few months ago.
It took over 9000 megabytes to install, so maybe that is contributing to the problem.
Anyways, If you know how to resolve this issue, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Rick Astley
You can't install it because it's Windows software and Linux isn't Windows. You might like to read this article. Some Windows software can run under Linux using WINE or other similar software.
Are you sure? I was able to install windows programs untill I installed battletoads. The exe's real icons never showed, but if i clicked on them, they would run fine.
I bought the computer from K-Mart, and it had everything that is on it now. (excluding battletoads and ms word)
I have'nt a clue what wine is, but I do know that somehow, my computer would open win32 files untill i installed battletoads. I dont know how it stopped the compatibility.
It has a big sticker on the moniter that says slackware. Its a pretty blue sticker. And when I bought the computer, they gave me the slackware DVD they installed it from. And i have to log in from the bash thingy at the startup.
It has a kickass penguin at the top also.
I dont know how to find out if wine is installed.
I'm having the same problem on Slack 12.
I installed a few months ago after converting from Linux and haven't been able to get my Windows apps to run since I installed Battletoads on my box. Almost worth it, I LOVE battletoads.
No, you shouldn't have used the quotes. Try using find then. Read the man page for the syntax. Also check if there's a Slackware package installed, which you can do simply with "ls /var/log/packages | grep wine".
