Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

If you are asking about www.ipfire.org then it is a stand alone distribution. The basic building block to a firewall is iptables which you can build in LFS. It is also possible to add the other functions.

Distro's like IPfire usually have all or most of the features listed at some place. The tools, programs and settings they use can usually be replicated.

It will take some work making your LFS work exactly like any other distro usually but can be done. The problem here is that any security will or could be lost. Distro's offer users ways to update.
