instant print from pop3 mail server ie emulate ipad print to hp printers

The new os for ipads permits printing to 4 new models of HP printers. My understanding is these printers have a 'mail' address you use from the ipad.

So how would you go about emulating this process?

A mail server with an address for each printer/paper size you have on the lan?

Automated process to send on receipt at the mail server to appropriate printer using appropriate paper tray. Cron on a minute basis?

The harder question is how do I avoid having to buy the better half a new printer?

Hope you all have lots of great ideas!

It would be nice if you provided a link to more information. I found this link.
http://www.applegazette.com/ipad/ipa...g-with-ios-42/
But the story is nothing like your description. The link that I provided talks about printing directly to wireless network enabled printers. Nothing to do with email.

Also, you talk about emulating whatever function you have in mind. Do you mean to emulate it from a normal wireless network enabled computer running Linux?

I suspect that CUPS could configure a wireless network enabled printer from a wireless network enabled computer. Is that what you mean?

Thanks for the reply

Try this page for background: http://www.hp.com/sbso/printing/mac/hp-airprint.html

I suspect Apple's airprint uses the same mechanics as HP ePrint enabled printers. The print button on the iPad, I believe, actually sends an e-mail to the HP printer, which instantly prints the document. Prior to the os release enabling this function, to print from an iPad you had to attach the document to an e-mail sent to your address, go to your desktop, fetch mail, and print.

So how to use a linux box on your lan to instantly print an e-mail. Again thanks for the reply.
