installing X in debian
 

I was trying to install debian 3.0 disk one.I was trying to configure xserver-xtree86. I had to choose a chipset(is that my integrated video card?), it was not in the list, I chose i810 because it was closest.I have an intel 845GL.
When I $startx it failed and went back to init3.
Could you point me in the right direction?

Look at your log file /var/log/XFree86.0.log. This will give details as to what the problem is. If you are none the wiser post the details in the Debian forum and I am sure someone will be able to help.
