installing windows without re-installing FC
hey ppl
the dead man here is having quite a few probs u c i am a new user of linux, and i installed windows on my hard drive first, then in the space left, i installed fedora core 1, and there was this beautiful bootloader menu for OS selection. unfortunately, windows went corrupt and i had to format the partition and re install. although i can boot linux from the floppy, i wish i still had that menu without installing the fc totally again. is there a way to restore the OS choice menu. and the second is, that i now have about 4 OSs on my drive, Win ME, NT, XP all installed on successive partitions, and during the installation of fedora, i had the choice to add to the bootloader menu, and i added the right partition info to it to boot them directly, but none worked other than the default dos/windows which was XP, the last windows installed before fedora. please help me how to get around this direct booting thing |
In response to the first problem: Put in a Knoppix CD, enter the grub shell and install. I wish I had written a howto on this when I came up with it, can't remember the exact commands you need to feed grub. In any case, make sure you enter grub from the bare console/terminal, do not use "konsole" or "xterm" etc.!
