Installing/Using SKYPE

Downloaded SKYPE package and the folder is sitting on my desktop, can I use it and if so how do I activate it?

Did you download an rpm, apt, tarball? What kind of package did you download, what is the file extension? That will determine whether and how you can install it.

Also, what distro/version are you using?

I have used Skype occasionally on Mageia and Ubuntu MATE. In both cases it seems to work quite nicely.

OP never followed up on their last thread. Probably not much chance getting that additional info here, either.
