Installing Ubuntu 14.04 on a F2FS partition
 

How can I install Ubuntu 14.04 on a F2FS partition? I created the partition with Gparted but during the installation the Ubuntu installer could not recognize the filesystem on the partition.

Interesting reading. According to this bug it is not possible to install on a F2FS partition in Ubuntu 14.04. However, some say that it is possible to install on F2FS using the alternative DVD. They say however that it is only available for the Lubuntu distribution. It is definitely not possible to have /boot on the F2FS partition since GRUB does not support it. But Linux is about pushing boundaries, right guys?

I suspect that, given time, F2FS will be supported. In the meantime, have you considered using a partition like ext3 for all but /home and F2FS for /home (/home is typically the largest and most used directory in a linux system).

I will probably use ext4 for / and /home. The ext4 can be easily tuned for performance with SSD drive according to this article. However F2FS stills seems to be very attractive for / as it is designed specifically for SSD and build from scratch (unlike ext4). There is no need to use only /home with F2FS as the point of the operation is to speed up the computer and I rarely use the stuff in /home.

Btw is it still true that Btrfs is somewhat behind ext4 in performance? And is it true that Btrfs is still an experimental filesystem? What are the advantages of Btrfs over ext4?

Conclusion: personally, I would only try out btrfs in a virtual machine until it becomes much more stable.
