installing thnderbird

I am running Mandriva operating system. I'm trying to install Thunderbird 1.0.6 tar.gz. I downloaded Thnderbird 1.0.6 .tar.gz file to the desktop I clicked on the file, it opened the file. It extracts all the files. I clicked on the Thunderbird icon but it will not run the Thunderbird software.
I have made a directory for Thunderbird and put the Thunderbird 1.0.6 tar.gz in the directory and clicked on the Thnderbird icon and it still will not execute.

Any help will be appreciated.

This section of the forums is for Linux From Scratch, you should post under the mandriva section.

To address your question though, the file you downloaded is the source for thunderbird. You will need to configure, compile, install it to use it. They have packages you can download on thier site that are pre-built.
